Our History
The Foundation of Studio 100
It all started with a dog… Gert Verhulst & Hans Bourlon established Studio 100 in Belgium, driven by a passion for creating high-quality family entertainment with Samson as the flagship character. The journey of imagination had only just begun.

Opening of the first theme park: Plopsaland Belgium
The first Plopsa theme park opened its doors in De Panne, Belgium. It brought the popular Studio 100 characters to life through a high-quality themed experience. The park rapidly established itself as a leading family attraction in Belgium.

Opening of the first indoor theme park; Plopsa Indoor Hasselt
Plopsa expanded with its first indoor park in Hasselt. The concept allowed families to enjoy attractions year-round. It set a new standard for indoor entertainment in Belgium.

Acquisition of EM Entertainment (now Studio 100 International) & Flying Bark
By acquiring EM Entertainment and Flying Bark Studio 100 took a major international step. The group's content now reaches audiences worldwide. It marked the company's evolution into a global media and entertainment leader.

Manager of the Year
Gert Verhulst & Hans Bourlon were honored with the award 'Manager of the Year'. This award recognized outstanding leadership and vision. It reflected the company’s growing influence and success.

First innovative theatre concept with the spectacular musical 14-18
With The musical 14-18 Studio 100 revolutionized the theatre experience. Thanks to innovative moving-tribune technology, audiences were completely immersed in the story. The production set a new benchmark for large-scale musical theatre in Europe.

Opening of the first water park, Plopsaqua De Panne
Plopsa expaned its universe with the launch of its very first water park next to Plopsa Belgium. Blending thrilling water attractions with beloved Studio 100 themes, Plopsaqua became a cornerstone of family entertainment.

Opening of the Studio 100 Pop-Up Theater
The innovative Studio 100 Pop-Up Theater opened its doors in Puurs, Belgium — a flexible, state-of-the-art venue designed for spectacular large-scale productions. It quickly became home to groundbreaking shows such as 40-45, Red Star Line, Daens and many more.

Opening of the Plopsaland Theatre Hotel
Plopsa introduced the Plopsaland Theatre Hotel, a themed family resort located right next to Plopsaland Belgium. The hotel offered guests a full resort experience, marking another milestone toward becoming a full-fledged holiday destination. With the opening of the Plopsaland Theatre Hotel, the Plopsaland Resort was born.

First spectacular musical in the Netherlands with 40-45
The acclaimed musical 40-45 premiered in the Netherlands, bringing the powerful spectacle to an entirely new audience. This Flemish production had already attracted over 750,000 visitors in its home country, and it is now on its way to breaking all records in its neighboring country. This success further strengthened Studio 100’s leading position in international live entertainment.
